COLD WEATHER ACTIVITIES...
Hannagan Meadow Lodge offers a variety of winter activities, including perfect cross country ski trails. Hannagan snowfall averages 35 feet a year! The Lodge's snow tubing hill is the most popular activity for families (kids love it!), and we have acres of snowmobile trails.  Many guests enjoy simply "getting away from it all" in our winter wonderland. Best of all: no crowds! If you are lucky, you may even spot members of the reintroduced pack of Mexican gray wolves that call this area home.
All trails start right at the Lodge, so there is no need to "camp" from your car all day to enjoy the fun. There are no fees to use our trails. There are no lines to buy tickets. You will not be elbowing your way through crowds of people to get to your destination. Hannagan Meadow has the hassle-free way to get out and enjoy nature in the winter months.
Nearby activities include winter hiking, ice fishing, dog-sledding competitions, Winterfest celebration, sledding and snowball fighting, and more. Because of our elevation at 9100 feet, we have some of the best snow available and also one of the longest snow seasons in the state.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING AND SNOWSHOEING:  The Lodge is the starting point for incredible backcountry skiing. Situated in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, the area offers acres of beautiful Engelmann spruce, Douglas fir, mixed conifer, aspen monarch and ponderosa pine trees. Completely isolated yet readily accessible, these serene meadows, hidden by open, old-growth forests, are the perfect place for great "flat-track" ski touring.
26 kilometers of groomed and/or marked trails leave right from the Lodge, offering opportunities to skiers of all levels. The Clell Lee trail, 5 km long, is a groomed loop along open drainages and through the forest and is for beginner and intermediate skiers. Ackre Lake is groomed, 10 km long, for beginner and intermediate skiers. The KP Rim-Willow Springs loop is in the Primitive Area and is marked but not groomed, runs 11 km for intermediate and expert skiers, and offers some of the best remote skiing anywhere in the Southwest.
HANNAGAN MEADOW SNOW PLAY:  All Lodge guests, whether young or just young-at-heart, enjoy our fun tubing hill, located right on the property behind the main building. You are likely to hear whoops of joy coming from the hill, any time people are whooshing their way down! Of course, with unlimited snow available, there is plenty of snowball-fighting, snowman-building, snow-angel-making activity to delight in. Come play in the snow with us!
WINTER HIKING: If you're into hiking through pristine winter beauty and quiet seclusion, try winter hiking. Nearby Black River Corridor trails include Fish Creek Access Trail #320 and Fish Creek Trail #60, both of which are designated hiking and horseback riding trails maintained by the Arizona Chapter of the Sierra Club. You'll find Three Forks to Diamond Rock #81 Trail along with the Mainstream Black River.

EQUIPMENT RENTALS: The Alpine Sports and Recreation Center at Hannagan Meadow Lodge General Store offers daily equipment rentals for cross country skiing and snowshoeing on a first-come, first-served basis, or you may bring your own equipment. The forest roads to the west of Hannagan Meadow provide a unique blend of dense forests interspersed with intimate cienegas and meadows that are perfect for the adventuresome snowmobiler.
WINTER TRAVEL: The Coronado Trail between Alpine and Hannagan Meadow is plowed daily, when needed, and is the recommended path to the Lodge during the winter months. During an active storm, the Lodge may be temporarily isolated. For assistance in planning your trip, please contact ADOT (Arizona Department of Transportation) at (888)411-ROAD for current weather and road conditions. Mid-December through mid-March offers the best chance for good snow. Obtain snow conditions and status of groomed trails from the Alpine Ranger District at 928-339-4384. Both state highways to Big Lake, Crescent Lake, and the Mount Baldy Wilderness are closed during the winter season.
