BLUE RANGE PRIMITIVE AREA:

View video from Blue Vista Lookout: 1.6MB or 1.25MB
Located within the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest along the Arizona-New Mexico border the Blue Range Primitive Area is the last remaining Forest Service primitive area in the United States. The Blue Range Primitive Area, designated in 1933 consists of 173,762 acres. A diversity of geographical landscapes including the Mogollon Rim and the Blue and San Francisco Rivers provide habitat for the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Bald Eagle, Mexican Gray Wolf and other potentially threatened or endangered wildlife species. While the Forest Service provides protection, the Blue Range Primitive Area requires greater protection through wilderness designation in order to preserve its desolate and unique qualities and prevent further biological losses due to logging, grazing and ORV use.
